Soomin Jin

MSTP Program rotation student

Soomin became interested in chemical biology as an undergraduate at Rutgers University, where she conducted antimalarial medicinal chemistry research in Dr. Spencer Knapp's Lab. She further explored complex synthetic chemistry during internships in industry before transitioning to the biology side of antimicrobial drug discovery. As a research associate in Dr. Deborah Hung's Lab at the Broad Institute, she developed biochemical assays and investigated new therapeutic targets for antituberculars. As an MD/PhD candidate, she seeks to study the interactions between the host and the microbial community and how to exploit them for clinical benefits. Outside of the lab, she teaches group fitness classes and explores latest coffee shops in the area.
